History

National Women of Achievement, Incorporated (NWOA) was founded on February 7, 1975, in Houston, Texas, by Madame Maudest A. Walls Stewart and seven charter members. The organization was established to empower women and youth, promote excellence, uphold high moral and ethical standards, and encourage achievement across education, business, law, medicine, politics, religion, and other professions.

The Articles of Incorporation were signed on April 9, 1975, and filed on April 10, 1975, in Harris County, Texas, establishing NWOA as a perpetual nonprofit organization headquartered in Houston.

Today, NWOA continues its mission through community service, scholarships, youth development, and its annual Profiles of Prominence program, which recognizes outstanding community leaders and supports scholarship fundraising nationwide.
